How It Works

Classroom Collaboration

Industry associations, educational institutions, and corporate foundations invest significant resources and effort into national observances that celebrate the importance of career and technical education (CTE) and STEAM education, as well as the rewarding (and often underappreciated) careers they lead to.

Yet, those celebrations—like National STEM/STEAM Day, Computer Science Education Week, Careers in Construction Month—are not typically celebrated where they would have the greatest impact: in the classroom.

The STEAM Teach-In partners with the associations, institutions and foundations that created those career-focused observances and helps bring their national celebrations into classrooms across America!

Identify and Connect with Relevant High School Teachers: Working with client resources or through our proprietary outreach process, we will identify the high school teachers within a given subject and geographic region who are passionate about preparing their students for 21st century challenges and invite them and their students to participate in a STEAM Teach-In event in celebration of an upcoming career- or industry-specific observance.

Prepare the Participating High School Teachers: Upon volunteering for the STEAM Teach-In, the high school teachers will receive:

  • Detailed instruction on how to host a successful STEAM
Teach-In

  • Virtual onboarding meetings (optional)

  • Educational resources, including industry and career insights

  • Suggested lesson plans (lesson plans may be provided by the host client)

  • Send-home materials for parents or guardians

Connect with the Elementary Schools: The high school teachers will reach out to their elementary school counterparts and school administrators to set up the dates and times of the STEAM Teach-Ins, secure permission slips for their students, transportation to the elementary school(s), etc.

Alert the Media: For those teachers willing to have media attend their events, we provide earned and social media support—directly pitching all relevant local TV, radio, online and print news outlets; writing and pitching op-eds, Letters to the Editor, etc.

Alert Policymakers: We also reach out to relevant local, state and national policymakers to make them aware of the good work going on in their districts, and to request letters of commendation, social media support, and future collaboration.

Track and Report Results: We track earned and social media coverage before, during, and after the events to provide overall metrics.

Recognize Achievement: We provide certificates of achievement for participating high school teachers and students.

Post Teach-In Survey: We reach out to participating elementary school teachers to learn about their experience and its impact on their likelihood of incorporating more of these kinds of lessons into their classrooms.
